Projects

So, my Year of Fudge is primarily to advance the writing and design on my own games. So while I have other ideas for Fudge based blogging, I really want to delve in to my design goals and ideas, first I feel I should reveal my overall plans.

I have two ideas worked up to a fairly advanced planning status, so what are they:

Near-future police procedural

Blade Runner is one of my favourite science fiction 'franchises', giving birth to many inspired video games, anime and TV series. The blend of near-future and police procedural has always been irresistible to me.

RPGs haven't had a good run of police procedurals, despite the proliferation of this genre on many other forms of entertainment. There is a preconception that mysteries are hard, or boring, but I feel there is a change taking place and an exploration of areas that have previously been ignored.

Swashbuckling

So originally this was going to be a swashbuckling horror game. A blend of sword fighting heroes versus cults, demonologists and 'things beyond the veil'.

Now I'm starting to change my mind, and planning on making something like a Ruritanian Romance. Mine won't be set in or around the 18/19th Century as the originating Prisoner of Zenda was, but more 17th Century, so closer to The Three Musketeers.

So that is everything on a very broad brush scale.

I feel I should also add that January is a terrible time of year for me. My workload is considerably heavier this time of year than at any other time, I would estimate that it is around 20-25% of my annual workload in one month and requires considerable over time to accomplish, easily 60-90 hours a week including over the weekend. For that reason the start of the year always feels like February, so I don't expect to make any headway until then.

The Year of Fudge

So, what is the Year of Fudge?

Really it is my Year of Fudge. I have plans for producing two Fudge-based games, and intend to immerse myself completely in Fudge for the whole year.

That means no new games (unless they happen to be Fudge related)

Only playing (or playtesting) Fudge

And only blogging about Fudge!

So, what can you expect from this blog over the next 12 months (and who knows if it goes well hopefully longer).

Updates on my games as I make progress (or not!)

Details of any games I play (probably too many of these as I concetrate on my own, but you never know)

Highlighting Fudge resources, many now on the Wayback Machine

Looking at other Fudge games

Possibly interviewing other Fudge developers and gamers

Maybe some bits about me and my history with gaming and Fudge

So hopefully that's interesting enough for people, and of course if there is anything you'd like too see, then let me know in the comments, or anywhere Fudge is discussed as I'm pretty much everywhere Fudge related.

Until next time

Fudge is back!

OK, so the title may be a little over blown, but I'd like to restart this blog (seemingly a dying breed) as I have some Fudge projects I'd love to produce.

This is really just a service resumed post, I'll detail things in later posts and my history with gaming and Fudge soon.

I hope you sign up so you get notified of new posts, and do take the opportunity to make comments if you can. It would be nice to know this blog will be read, and I can answer any questions or rearrange or create posts in response.

So until next time, keep gaming.
